First, choose the right space for you!

You cannot expect to feel like you have a stable new home business if you do not have a stable work place.

Where is your desk? Are you parked at the kitchen table each day with your laptop, going through piles of paper for an hour before you can even think about your first task? Do you have to shift binders and notebooks around and replace the table's place mat with your desk calendar each day?

By the time you sit down believing that you have your things in order for the two hours you dedicated out of your day to work on your business...it's time to clean up so you can set the table for dinner!

I suggest finding a place somewhere in your home that you can set up shop and feel like you at least have an office to work at each day! (Wherever you decide to work...even if you do choose to work in the kitchen...don't use the kitchen table! Set up a couple of folding T.V. trays, or a rolling organization cabinet (so you can roll it into another room when not working or move out of a child's reach) to keep your laptop and printer on and pull up a chair! That way you will be ready to start working everyday, and have all of your time to concentrate on your business, not housekeeping.) Leave it set up until your business starts booming and then you can relocate!

You need a plan!

Actually, you need a planner. You need an organizer where you can keep track of appointments, meetings, calls, names, addresses, and phone numbers. If you are up on the cutting edge of technology and like to use the hand held electronic planners, Blackberries and so on...GREAT. If you are not so advanced...use a paper planner that you can write in. Both work just fine...it's all about what works for you, Baby!

Stick with sticky notes!

Keep piles of paper in order with sticky notes! Take each pile you may have and make organized stacks if you do not have access to a filing cabinet.

If you have multiple piles of paper...make tabs from the sticky notes so you can see the writing as you stack the pile. Turn the pile of paper the opposite way each time you place a new pile on top of the last. You can stack file folders the same way if you do not have a filing cabinet.

Use sticky notes as reminders for all your important tasks. They stick everywhere!

Sometimes you do have to Sweat the Small Stuff!

Take a couple minutes before you start your big jobs to finish off any unfinished business. Tally receipts, write out thank you cards, check your e-mails, check bank accounts, double check your appointments for the day, confirm dates and make reminder calls, open your postal mail, etc.

Small jobs add up and become overwhelming over time! To keep yourself moving forward in the right direction, start your day by tying up loose ends and begin big projects with a clean slate! BUT, it is important not to get bogged down in the small stuff!

Sweat it, Get a Hold of it, and Forget it!!!

Don't break the bank! You can purchase items at the local dollar stores and discount stores for your organizing...but you can also do it with no money! You can use old coffee cans or coffee mugs to store pens, pencils and highlighters. You can use shoe boxes, or used boxes that held plain printer paper or copies from Kinkos, to store paperwork and e-books and how-to-manuals.

The key is to always use labels on your boxes. You will benefit greatly by taking the extra minute to put a label on the front of your storage boxes. When your business begins to boom, you will be thankful for that label! You will be able to find the exact location of your paperwork in the blink of an eye, instead of wandering aimlessly through a mountain of tattered papers. This is a major home business time-saver!

Know what day it is!

Seriously people! You'll be surprised at how you can easily loose track of days when you are not clocking in at the old J-O-B anymore! It will happen...invest in a calendar that can hang on the wall or that will fit nicely on your "desk".

Always wake up and make your first task of the day: a quick glance at today's date!
